The history of the Asian Association for EMS goes back to 2009.

The AAEMS has as its forerunner,The Asian EMS Council,
the foundations of which were laid in Busan, South Korea, by Associate Professors,
Sang Do Shin of Korea and Marcus Ong of Singapore.

Subsequently, physicians from 8 countries put the idea into shape in 2009 at the
NAEMSP and Korean Society of Emergency Medicine meeting, and set up
the Asian EMS Council to promote and advocate the pre-hospital care / EMS in Asia.

The Asian Association for EMS was registered out of Singapore on the 22nd of March 2016
as a body of professionals to create a uniform EMS across Asia. Its history dates to 2009,
when the Asian EMS Council was formed.

The Founders of AAEMS have the following vision for the Association:

  • Promote the sharing of experiences of other EMS systems
  • Act as advocates for EMS to different communities
  • Create opportunities for education and training for EMS physicians and providers
  • Collaborate for the advancement of EMS systems
  • Undertaking research projects on pre-hospital care

Like its forerunner, the AAEMS is participative and not representative.
The spirit with which members of AAEMS work is… “We are not here
because we represent our country we are here because we want to
participate in the development of EMS in Asia.”

The AAEMS has 5 regional chapters that involve geographies and EMS stakeholders of various countries.

The Executive Committee (EXCO) is the highest decision making body of the AAEMS. It is elected for a term of 2 years.
